Annual Meeting of the Global NASH Council (GNC) and Global Liver Council (GLC) June 8, 2024, ILC 2024, Milan Italy
This year, we had a highy successful GNC/GLC meeting during EASL 2024 in Milan, Italy which was attended by 77 members (65 in person and 12 via zoom). These members represented leaders in the field of liver disease, endocrinology, nutrition and patient representatives from most regions of the world. During the meeting, an overview of the growth and activities of the Councils and a summary of the large scale projects undertaken by the Council members were provided. These projects included the results of the Global NAFLD Stigma survey from patients and providers, the impact of the nomencalture change on evidence (mortality outcomes, NITs and PROs), initial results of the large mega-analysis of 16,000 liver biopsies from MASLD patients, Cost of Inaction about MASLD (Economic burden of MASLD) in 6 countries (US, Germany, Japan, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Brazil), NIT Threshold Global Survey and Enhancing the Implementation of MASLD/MASH Guidelines Across the Globe (EIMG). Furthermore, co-chairs of each of the 10 committees of GNC/GLC provided their reports and future plans. Academic productivity and future regional meetings were discussed.

A tribute to Dr. Stephen Harrison (1969-2024)
It is with great sorrow that we mourn the untimely passing of our friend and colleague Stephen Harrison, MD. Dr. Harrison was a beacon of inspiration and professionalism, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was one of the pioneers in the field of MASLD and MASH and has made extensive contributions to the field of hepatology more broadly. His dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence set a standard for us all to follow. Beyond his impressive achievements, he was a thoughtful and generous person who embodied what we should all aspire to be as human beings. He was the kindest of friends – loyal, positive, reliable and hard working. Despite his indisputable success and contributions, he was humble and caring. The void left by his departure is immense, and he will be deeply missed by many of us and never forgotten. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, his wife, Renee, daughter Anna-Lauren and son, Taylor for their profound loss. Annual Liver Connect 2024 Conference
This weekend, Chronic Liver Disease Foundation concluded its highly successful Annual Liver Connect 2024 Conference. This 3-day meeting was attended by 500 in person attendees and 200 virtual attendees. The meeting was full of cutting edge sessions covering a variety of topics liver disease which were delivered by over 70 renowned faculty. The meeting not only provided amazing scientific content for clinicians but also connected different stakeholders in the field of liver disease including providers, researchers, industry and patient representatives. The Liver Connect which is organized by CLDF is now established as one of the best annual meetings in liver disease. Looking forward to Liver Connect 2025.
The Global NASH Council Meeting During APASL 2024, Kyoto, Japan
The first Global NASH Council (GNC) meeting during APASL 2024 was held in Kyoto, Japan with a number of highly relevant topics related to MASLD/NAFLD discussed by regional leaders. GNC and its network of global collaborators will continue to expand their projects to address Steatotic Liver Disease as one of the most important non-communicable diseases in the world.
